Hair drug tests are used by employers who have zero tolerance drug use policies, courts and individuals on probation. The primary advantage of a hair drug test is that it includes a much longer detection period for drug use which typically is up to 90 days. However, when screening for drug use within the last 5 days the urine test continues to be the most accurate test.

Hair drug testing is the only method available that provides up to a 90-day look back period for drug use.  Data has shown that hair drug testing provides almost twice the number of positives because of its longer window of detection (look back period). If a donor has no hair on their body, then a hair test cannot be performed!

FAQ's About Hair Drug Testing

What Is The Hair Drug Test Process?
A certified hair collection specialist will cut approximately 120 strands of hair (about the internal diameter of a straw), utilize a chain of custody procedure and send the hair to a certified laboratory for analysis. Drug testing centers and laboratories require at least 1.5 inches of hair from the crown portion of the head to perform this test and is the only way to certify the results for 90 days.
How Long Do Drugs Stay in Your System for a Hair Drug Test?
The average growth of an individual’s head hair is approximately 1.3 cm (1/2 inch per month), therefore hair at the length of 1.5 inches will be validated for that 90-day lookback period.  Hair generally needs to come from the head, however if the donor does not have head hair certain testing centers can use hair from chest, leg or arm pit.
How Long It Take to Receive Hair Drug Test Results?
Once the hair has been analyzed by a certified laboratory, they will then be reviewed and then verified by a Medical Review Officer (licensed Physician) who will release the results. Generally, a negative hair drug test result is available in 3-4 business days and a non-negative hair drug test is available in approximately 5-7 business days from when the hair specimen reaches the laboratory for analysis. Urine cut-off levels are expressed in nanograms per milliliter (ng/mL) or as a weight of drug per unit volume of urine. Hair cut-off levels are expressed in picograms per milligram (pg/mg) or as a weight of drug per unit weight of hair.

Introduction to Baltimore

Baltimore (/ˈbɔːltɪmɔːr/ BAWL-tih-mor) is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Maryland. Baltimore was established by the Constitution of Maryland as an independent city in 1729. With a population of 602,495 in 2018, Baltimore is the largest such independent city in the United States. As of 2017 , the population of the Baltimore metropolitan area was estimated to be just under 2.802 million, making it the 21st largest metropolitan area in the country. Baltimore is located about 40 miles (60 km) northeast of Washington, D.C. , making it a principal city in the Washington-Baltimore combined statistical area (CSA), the fourth-largest CSA in the nation, with a calculated 2018 population of 9,797,063.

Baltimore is also the second-largest seaport in the Mid-Atlantic. The city's Inner Harbor was once the second leading port of entry for immigrants to the United States. In addition, Baltimore was a major manufacturing center. After a decline in major manufacturing, heavy industry, and restructuring of the rail industry, Baltimore has shifted to a service-oriented economy. Johns Hopkins Hospital (founded 1889) and Johns Hopkins University (founded 1876) are the city's top two employers.

With hundreds of identified districts, Baltimore has been dubbed a "city of neighborhoods." Famous residents have included writers Edgar Allan Poe, Edith Hamilton, Frederick Douglass, W.E.B. Du Bois, Ogden Nash, Gertrude Stein, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Dashiell Hammett, Upton Sinclair, Tom Clancy, Ta-Nehisi Coates, and H. L. Mencken; musicians James "Eubie" Blake, Billie Holiday, Cab Calloway, Tori Amos, Frank Zappa, Tupac Shakur, Robbie Basho, Bill Frisell, and Philip Glass ; actors and filmmakers John Waters, Barry Levinson, Divine, David Hasselhoff, Jada Pinkett Smith; artist Jeff Koons; baseball player Babe Ruth; radio host Ira Glass; Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall; Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi; and United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson. During the War of 1812, Francis Scott Key wrote "The Star-Spangled Banner" in Baltimore after the bombardment of Fort McHenry. His poem was set to music and popularized as a song; in 1931 it was designated as the American national anthem.
