Introduction to Sweetwater

Sweetwater is a city in Monroe and McMinn counties in the U.S. state of Tennessee, and the most populous city in Monroe County. Sweetwater made headlines in 2019 when local Lee's Chapel Baptist Church refused to hold a funeral service for a local parishioner because he has a gay son. The pastor of this church is named Jay Scruggs. The man in question was reported as being "devastated" when he heard Scruggs will not allow his funeral to be held in the church, where he is a long-time member.
